This project, entitled ‘RDC@ITV – Roadmap for the decarbonisation of the ITV’,
aims to develop a roadmap for the decarbonisation of the Textile and Clothing Sector
(STV), and, subsequently, to support companies in the sector in making decisions
regarding the most effective technologies and measures to adopt in order to meet the carbon neutrality targets
set for 2050. To this end, the
main drivers and pathways for the sector’s decarbonisation will be defined, and a
tool will be developed to enable the calculation of the carbon footprint. Based on this
assessment, and the type of company, the most appropriate
strategies for its decarbonisation will be identified.

Project Number | No. 83
Funding programme | Recovery and Resilience
Plan Component | C11: Decarbonisation of Industry
Measure | R-2021-C11i01-01 - Support for the development of industrial decarbonisation roadmaps and capacity building
Eligible investment | €500,000.00
Grant | €500,000.00 €
Start date | 1 April 2023
End date | 31 March 2025

The RDC@ITV project is structured into 8 Work Packages (WPs), organised across 3 key pillars; each WP is in turn divided into various specific activities:

  1. Diagnosis and Preliminary Studies
  2. Development and Validation
  3. Dissemination, Capacity Building and Management.

Expected
results The main outcome of this project will be the development of a roadmap for the decarbonisation of the Portuguese textile and clothing industry. It is also expected that a tool will be developed to determine the individual carbon footprint of each company in the Portuguese textile and clothing industry; based on this assessment and the type of company, the tool will identify the most appropriate strategies for its decarbonisation.
The aim of drawing up this roadmap is also for the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association to align with the decarbonisation targets for the textile and clothing industry, to increase energy efficiency, to incorporate renewable energy as set out in the National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 (PNEC 2030, BCSD, 2019), and to help the country achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, as set out in the RNC2050 (APA, 2019).

The consortium
formed as part of this application comprises three leading institutions, whose technical expertise complements one another
:- CITEVE – Textile and Clothing Technology Centre, which is the consortium’s lead organisation;
- ATP – Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association;
- ANIVEC/APIV – National Association of Clothing and Garment Manufacturers.
